It will open slower, you want more boost so you want the gate to open later. All the boost elbow does is reduce the signal your wastegate sees. While you will make say 40psi your wastgate will only see 20psi... Causing teh wastegate to stay closed longer, giving you more boost.

got it. so if my gauge is only reading 20 psi (it comes out of the intake manifold right under the driver side intercooler tube on the head) would i only be reading 20 total pounds of boost or would i be getting more, and just not seeing it after the wastegate? sorry to be a pain im still trying to learn about this wastegate stuff

Your gauge will still read what the engine see, all your doing is interupting teh signal to the wastegate.

Your making 20PSI.. that is fed to the waste-gate and opens it up allowing it to stop making boost, by adding he elbow you can be making 20PSI of boost but regulating it down to 10PSI at the waste gate so it's not open all the way and is still building boost!

well would the wastegate be my problem as to why im only gettin 20 pounds of boost? because ive seen 100% bone stock trucks make that. id assume i should be gettin around 40 psi. is it the wastegate that limiting that or soemthing else?

yes.

as you build boost the wastegate will slowly open and bypass some exhaust from the turbo to hold a set maximum boost.. I see a lot of turbo's come preset for 20psi boost.

you can wire the wastegate shut somehow and it will build as much boost as it can.
you can adjust the linkage until it makes your desired maximum boost
you can add the adjustable elbow and "trick" the wastegate and adjust with that to get your desired boost.

Exactly, the adjustabe elbow is the easiest way for tuning. Very fast.
