Boring out a cummins is not gonna magically gove you 100hp, I bet his bat out of hell truck has some fueling upgrades.

 

i agree, but lets face it bigger cubic inch tends to lean to more hourse power

some food for thought, every one that we have done has come back, because the blocks have hole in them from to much stress, the ones that have been done by us are going in backhoes and dozer's and some Komatsu application.

my opinion on this, I would sleeve it and bring back to standard


350.00 to bring your block to .5mm and deck the top.

for sleeving is 650.00 back to standard and decking

but you can buy a storm block for 898.00 new

 

wow i paid 189 for boring .020 over and to deck the block at the local machine shop this spring when i rebuild my 94 12v

we use precise 4 axis CNC , laser guided. measures to .00002

about $60.00 a hole.

same machine used for decking .00002 accurate

there will be some machines shops who will do it cheaper, most likely they are a small shop, we have a set price, I wish I could be as competitive as some of the shops, but I cant.

 

i would go a different route other than machining the block, prolly would be cheaper in long run, unless cylinders are scored bad!

 

i built one that was bored, block shaved. piston actually lifted higher than the block by .018 of an inch. thicker head gasket. 60 horse injectors. shaved fuel plate. with stock turbo it would roast the back tires off through third gear and chirp fourth.
zach_west has this motor in his pickup now. its pretty hot.

 

not to bust your bubble but some guys do that without boring. just depends on the mods

 

I have heard its only safe to go no bigger than 20 over without having to re-sleve it. It does make the cylinder walls a lot weaker if you bore it out too large. I personally wouldn't go bigger than that and even then im going to avoid it as long as possible because when I have to rebuild the engine someday I want to be able to just bore it out a tiny bit to make the walls smooth and be able to drive her again. There are tons of trucks out there that run like monsters without any boring of any sort. There are better ways to get power without sacrificing your engines strength.

 

If its not needed I would not do it. There are guys making CRAZY power on the stock 5.9 liters. If they will spend all that money to do custom heads, mill off the intake, ect. There is a reason that they are not pulling the engine and boring it till it is needed.
