Well, that would depend on whether an effigy burning is in the works.........

I do go by a similar screen name on CF and others.

Nah, its really just Diesel 101 for the most part. I probably know too much about certain areas, makes it dangerous when I open the hood.

Combustion efficiency does not necessarily mean higher temperatures. And NOX emission rises with increased air/fuel ratio. I thought we were talking about taking air out of the fuel?

Ah, but combustion efficiency does raise the cylinder temps. Stoichiometric balance will lead to increased temps because of the complete burn of the fuel (efficiency), thats one of basic tenets of combustion. Hence, almost all modern diesels run stoichiometric lean to counteract the higher temps.

Increased temps, not air\fuel ratio causes NOX creation. This is the main reaosn why multiple events are used. Injecting smaller amounts of fuel at spaced intervals keeps combustion temps under control, yet, still produces overall the same amount of power at the expense of efficiency. A single event with the correct timing is more efficient in the use of fuel to generate the power, it will generate much less particulate emissions due to complete combustion but much more NOX due to the temps.

Yes, air in fuel was the original subject but its a subject that can't really be discussed in a vacuum. Discussing it with just a limited view of the subject is misleading as the impact extends a lot farther. It is further complicated by the fact that removal of entrained air, while enhancing efficiency, could very well increase emissions.

Modern engines are not developed piece by piece with no interaction between components, there are inherent dependencies that the engineering takes into account. If we try to zero in on one area and label it as good\bad or needed\not needed we end up missing the mark because of the dependencies.

I'm just sayin'............

Sounds like it's probably illegal to run an AD or FASS fuel pump then!

The possibility exists. Mayhap this is the reason there is no CARB number for them?
