cheaply you can get a boost fooler and do a smoke switch, not recommended but it works, i would just put a tuner on and leave it, cummins will smoke enough

for your truck their is no "cheap" option. You have to have a chip/programmer. Or you can do a smoke switch but it messes things up

Not only will the transmission be gone, you'll take out the lift pump which will in return take out the cp3, without a new limp pump ie: fass airdog, you'll also drain the rail. Then runing on sw9 your egts will be through the roof unless you have air modifications, such as a cold air intake and the cycle goes on and on... Theirs no cheap way about going about this, one thing leads to another and the circles goes on and on

Oh I love these threads.

Black smoke is lost power, unburned fuel, and generates high EGT's. It makes diesel engines look bad, and in turn makes us look bad because we own them.

It also can damage your engine and transmission to the point that it would be cheaper to buy another truck than it would be to repair it.

I hope someone can teach you about making clean power with a diesel.

Easy boys. Were here to help, teach, learn and share info. Not to judge, ridicule, belittle or make light of somebody that has honest questions.

Yeah...so there....while we're at it...I have a programmer and my truck still won't smoke. On the highest setting it will if I mash on it, but other than that it won't. Still have stock exhaust though. Is that why?

If its a HO it has a 4inch stock exhaust. But a set of injectors will make it smoke

All being fair, why do you want it to smoke? Personally, mine smokes too much and it is because I need twins to make more air. I say don't smoke and keep it as a 7000 pound sleeper.
