Verify lift pump power, turn the key to crank BRIEFLY and then release, should hear the pump run for 25 seconds.
- Verify lift pump pressure before the filter, then at the injection pump, and make sure its actually fuel at both points, not just air pressure.
- If you don't have fuel before the filter, physically verify your fuel level and if its good then your lift pump is bad.
- If you the lift pump doesn't run at all then first check the wiring to the plug and make sure you have 12V supply after bumping the key to "start." The power is supplied DIRECTLY from the engine ECM so there are no fuses for the lift pump alone. If you don't have power to to pump then make sure the ECM has power, turn the key to run and see if the "wait to start" and "check engine" light turn on. If not then its likely your ECM has lost power.
- If you have fuel to the injection pump and its still not starting, check out Blue Chip Diesels troubleshooting page VP44 Diagnostic, I've been a diesel tech for 4 years now and I still learned from his tips
