AUTOMATICS....Tell me about them

IMO doing the conversion costs the same so why go through all the hassle of changing it when you can build the one you got for the same money..... if your planning on competing in anything with it an auto is going to win 9 times outta 10... its even coming to it for pulling..... thats why i still have one...

building a auto that will hold to anything the nv4500 can is much more expensive i did my conversion for under $3000, including a new valiar, and new flywheel, the only used part i had was the tranny and it had 20k on it, about as new as your going to find now. i agree if your going to compete you cant shift faster then a auto can but building the auto to handle anything that will make you competitive is going to run you 5500 is parts

I have no desire for competition. My last truck was a healthy 215k mile '97 12V 5-spd Dually. I had exhaust, bhaf, #100 slid & starwheel tweaked. Sure I wanted a lil more power but didn't want to go beyond what the stock clutch could take because I couldn't afford to do the clutch, injectors, and turbo upgrade.
With this '94 Auto CTD I can basically afford to do two things:
1. Start collecting the parts (slowly as funds allow) for building a stout 47RH that can handle 500hp or so
2. I can start collecting the parts necessary to swap an NV4500 or 5600 into the truck with a clutch that can handle the power.
If I do keep this truck, it will never see anything more than what my '97 had, plus some mild injectors and an upgraded turbo(along with other upgraded small parts to make everything work in conjunction with eachother)...basically the same mods my '97 had, but taking it to the level where I would have taken my '97 if I had the funds to allow it. And those mods will only happen AFTER I finish installing a built auto or a manual conversion. I do however make a good enough salary that the whole thing is acheivable, so we'll see.
Thanks for the info guys.
