You could put a bucket under the water in fuel drain open it and turn the key should see the pump work. I had to bump my starter to get the fuel pump to turn on so it may be the same on yours. Or you may want to pull the line of the pump outlet instead of using the drain.
As said above when testing batteries you have to do it with them not connected together or the good battery is all you will see.
The fuel pump you have is one of the problem ones. The in tank pumps are the less troublesome ones.
