Default G56 fluid change

Hello friends! I have a 2006 and I have heard of people running gear oil in there g56? Sounds crazy to me, what do other people recommend? What brands of atf do you use? And if you use a additive like Lucas and so on.
Thanks in advance!

yup run a 75w gear oil and say good bye to noise and hard shifts......to a point!
one quart overfull! be sure your top seals are not ripped! yes it's a pain to get to but they do rip and smell and leakage do happen!

Mobil Delvac 50 is the best thing for a g56. I can't remember exactly what Mercedes Benz recommends for it but the delvac 50 is the closest thing to it that's available. You can buy it at o'Reilly's and I think napa can get it too. Be prepared to wait a day or two for it to come in at both places though.

There's a guy on multiple sites that runs a fleet of G-56's. He uses one gallon Delvac 50 + three qts of Royal Purple Synchromax. I use Delvac + Amsoil 5-30 Synchromesh. I live in a very temperate location but wouldn't want anything thicker. This combo kills 85% or so of the gear noise associated with a smf conversion. Putting through the neighborhood in 3rd will induce some noise but no bad. Clutch out noise in neutral is eliminated.
Nothing's as silent as the dmf stock clutch, but the updated fluid helps a lot.

Interesting fluid comparison:

thanks you guys for the info, I drained the fluid out and put atf plus one quart of lucas heavy duty oil stabilizer in it, (cause on the label it said it mixes with atf, the tranny shifts so much smoother and a lot less gear noise, so the lucas works great just so you guys can put that one in your minds as well. thanks again!

I just swapped out mine with 75-90 Amsoil MTG. Smoother shifts and gear noise putting through the neighborhood is less. My Delvac 50/Amsoil 5-30 combo looked fine at 25K. Just the usual fine needles on the plug.

I found Delvac thinned w/Amsoil 5-30 synchromesh a bit stiff in 30* mornings here. I couldn't imagine shifting the sucker in Canadian/Montana weather with straight Delvac 50.
Delvac 50 is indeed the closest thing out there to Mercedes requirements.

delvac 50 is what mercedes says to put in. if it was the "closest thing" that would mean that mercedes says to run something other then delvac 50.
