I just purchased my diesel and the engine light came on. The mechanic said it was do to the diesel filters which is an expensive fix. The alternative is straight piping it. What ares the results of straight piping it? Should I just let the dealer eat the cost and fix the filters?

 

If the dealer is paying yes, then get the pipes, save the new OEM set for trade in time

 

It depends on what your state looks for in their inspections.
In NEW YORK they look for cats in place. If I straight piped it
I would need to put cat back on before inspection.

 

I've been thinking about removing the exhaust filters on my 2006 Ram but would like to know if it will mess up any sensors, if it will are the replacements to keep the check engine light off?

 

Did that dealer use a code-reader and pull up a specific code to say that?

Mine (2006) is straight-piped with no issues or codes. I bought MBRP's "cat-delete pipe" and enough exhaust pipe to replace the spot of where the OEM muffler was. Now, the newer trucks, you would have codes that come up...
