Exhaust Temps

Exhaust Temps
Hey there all. I was wondering what some opinions and facts are about EGT's.
1. Where should the probe go?
2.What is the max temp where if held for longer than a second or two it will do damage?
3.What is the first thing to get hurt if you run too hot?
4. What is the highest temp one may sustain?, as if while pulling a long grade.
5. What temp is it ok to shut off your rig at?
6. What temp do you run at just while driving unloaded at 65?
Not sure if it is right but I put my probe in the manifold just before the turbo closer to #6
Busy thread but thanks for your input.

baconbits pic was perfect, the rear cylinders run hotter than the front, so you want the probe in the rear runner, right before the turbo...
1600* is a good peak temperature, pulling a grade you want to keep it below 1300 if its a minute or so, most manufacturers say 1250 sustained is max egt. valves and pistons usually melt first.
