How long for shop to replace VP44
So I got a used VP Pump, dropped it off at the shop. D&W Diesel in Buffalo. They figured $600 to replace the pump. Seems awful high to me for a job I can do in less than 3 hours. Unfortunately, its in the single digits here now, and I am not gonna replace that thing with temps this low.
What has anyone else paid for it?

is that including the pump? or the price of just the install? if its just install, ur getting raped on that one imo. even if the shop is slow at putting one on, it shouldnt take but 2 hours for a shop o it. 3 if there real slow at doing it, and that would mean there rate is 200 an hour which is high imo.

600 bucks 3 hrs 100 a hr? umm im not a math genius but that math doesnt work out. A shop will tend to charge you more for labor when you bring your own part. 600 is far in my book. if you have done one before then you should know it can be a pain. iv done quite a few and had them take 1.5hrs to 6hrs. my advise is to do it yourself. a little cold ant gona kill you.

Your right about a little cold... I'm sure you know all about it being from NM. Problem is your talking cold, wind, and elements. And with fuel soaking your gloves its pretty much impossible to feel anything, not to mention the risk of frostbite. It shouldn't matter if I bring my own part, this isn't a stealership, and at $1600 for a new pump through them, I saved $1000 on the part.
I'm just a little confused as to how they came up with $600. They post a labor rate, they can't change that if you bring your own part...

BTW Robertson, 0 degrees with a 10mph wind is a far cry from mid 30's.

yeah just cause i live here dont mean thats were im from . i know what cold is. id call around but every time iv had a shop do one its been right around that. oh and there is no reason to get fuel on you. the lines wont be holding that much. im just saying if you know how to do it then f the shop and do it yourself on a warmer day. or throw a tarp over your truck and put a heater under it. couple hrs with a space heater and it will be toasty in there.
