Well, if you can't trust those gauges I don't know what gauges you can. :rocking:
|
Yeah, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to trust those.
Also, some good news: My friend who works at a junkyard back home told me they just got a '99 Ram with a Cummins in, so he put the turbo aside for me. $200 for an HX35 with almost no shaft play and the dowpipe seems like a fair price. |
Whats almost no shaft play? A little side to side is normal as long as it does not tough the housing. ANY in and out play is bad.

I'm going home on Wednesday for thanksgiving weekend, so I'll be able to check it out then. Assuming its good, the truck should be back on the road within the week.
|
I say you blew your bearing and ect.
|
Well I picked up a like-new H1C for cheap today and got it all back together. I took the power off the injection pump and cranked the engine for a little bit to circulate the oil, and there was an intermittent squeaking noise. I hooked the power back on the injection pump, and the engine started right up. It ran great for around 5 seconds, and then there was a metal-on-metal noise so I shut it down. I couldn't really tell where it came from unfortunately.
|
Sounds like a possible spun bearing.
|
I had a friend take a look at it that knows these motors pretty well, and he thinks its the cam bearing. Regardless, the truck is down until winter break when I'll have a chance to tear it apart.

On the KDP did you look at all the bolts behind the cover? I can't remember what they go into but, there are a few behind the gears that work themselves loose and can be just as bad as the KDP coming out....
Good luck.... |
This just happened to me last night. Took out my BRAND Fing NEW hybrid 40 turbo. Literally. Brand new. I had just put it on. the turbo has 0 miles on it, and it now is toast.
Called autozone and an oil pump is $300! |
I'm surprised that these bolts aren't more of a known issue, yet everyone who has a Cummins knows about the KDP fix.
Go on ebay and you can get a like-new OEM pump for around $50 shipped. As far as my engine, no updates for now, because over winter break my friend gave me an insane deal on one of my dream cars (BMW E36 M3). I couldn't afford that and the Cummins rebuild, so that'll have to wait until summer, when I'll also be doing the axles and suspension. |
Upon further inspection of mine. It was not due to KDP or the 4 bolts. The oil pump siezed, and the motor continued to power through, ripping the idle gear, causing the cast plate to shear.
