94 12v with issues! can I get some help please?
Hey fellas new hire here, I just bought a 1997 dodge 3500 5 speed single cab short box with a 94 model 12v and it's got problems... it's my first diesel and I'm not sure what to do. To start off the throttle is only about a quarter of what it should be. I think it's the cable being stretched but not sure. the guy I bought it from said he had a newer engine put in it and befor it got swapped it would do 100mph and had way more throttle to it. How fast do these trucks normal go??? Second, it starts REALY hard and you damn near have to have your foot to the floor to get it to remotely start... but once it dose...it runs good. and the last I can think of is what I found just today that's got me worried... Every single injector pisses fuel down the block.... the very first cylinder even bubbles a bit.. WTH? can I just titan them?? If I could get some instructions it would be very helpful. Thanks, Sam

The throttle could be the throttle cable binding, or stretched. It could also be something inside the rear of the fuel pump causing the rod not to move all the way.
They usually go fast until the governor springs start defueling around 2500 rpm.
As for the hard start issue, could be a weak lift pump, or possably air getting onto the fuel lines.
As for fuel leaking down the block, where does it look like it's coming from, we need more detail on that?
When you say the first cylinder bubbles? what do you mean??
and titan them????
One question for you, is your killer dowel pin dealt with?

Get your fuel lines tightened down if that's where the fuel is coming from. If your fuel lines are leaking fuel that is your hard start problem ( a diesel will not start with much air in the lines and when they do they don't run very good. That's why it cranks so much pushing the air out until it gets enough fuel and pressure) i would lay money on it. Now on the throttle when I first built my truck I had a similar issue there is a black liner on the cable that is suppose to slide inside the actual cable tube. I just cut the black liner off and mine works great now. Have someone hit the gas pedal and watch it .good luck hope this helps

Hey.. thanks for responding!
When I say fuel leaks down the side of the block I mean you can see it streams from the injector all the way to the pan... it puddles around the injector and then runs down. It's so bad that the last 2 cylinders so leak enough that it runs around the bell housing and is a solid drip every second... I was wondering if they could be tightened down with the right torque settings and a common wrench???

I have not had the chance to look. I finally got the truck in my possession yesterday afternoon and had to leave it at the shop I work at. It's on my list of must do's.
I took a good video of the injectors leaking and bubbling but I can't figure out how to upload it. I'm still very new to the website..

The injectors can only really leak from 2 places. The line connection, or the body itself. Unless they are cracked. Regardless if tightening the lines down (reasonably snug, do not over tighten) doesn't fix It your looking at taking out those injectors. Getting them serviced or just replacing them which is likely a better choice if you have any performance goals. Even if they are mild goals.

Did you find all of the leaks. There is a fuel line that runs under the P7100 injector pump too that you may want to check if it is still leaking. Adjust the idle is simple follow the instructions located here Ram Diesel Problems.
