Default Truck is purging at idle help

I have a 96 ram 2500 with a 12valve truck has 380k miles and still everyday driver. Truck runs great except at idle when in park and neutral idles fine. When in drive sounds like it purging real bad has shut off on me twice so far. I know it idles In gear under 500 and in park at 500 Rpms. Any suggestions?

adjust the idle up. with the A/C on and in gear it should be around 750rpm, in park and neutral / park it should be ~900rpm.

it is a simple adjustment that only requires a 10mm wrench and a quadruple jointed arm..... well not that many joints, but a skinny arm and someone with some dexterity is a big plus...

it's also a royal pain in the *** since, unless there is a way I have not figured out, you have to shut the truck off, adjust, start, idle, and go from there.

total pain.

however, you are idling way too low. You wanna fix that. they're made to idle higher for a reason(s).

I gotta ask.

what do you mean by "purging"? like the wastegate is stuck open?

Also, 14mpg in town isn't terrible. I do about 14/22 city/highway.

Feels like its sucking air but as soon as I get it a little gas idles fine. And the 14 mpg is highway mpg I get worse in city the truck never warms over 140 but the gauge dose work
