Default Fuel gauge off?

95 12v 305k on the clock. Just randomly my fuel gauge is showing a 3/4 of a tank when it's full, half when it's 3/4, and ect. Is there a way to reset it or what? It responds like it should just a 1/4 tank lower on the gauge than what it really is. Any help or places to check?

your sending unit is effed, or the floats are effed, basically, it's things that are in the tank.

mine reads no higher than 3/4 but is accurate from there down. I just live with it and go by the trip meter. fuel gauges are not cheap to fix, and I used to not having one since I ride a motorcycle 7 months of the year.
